Hey All,

Friday was GREAT. We had so much fun. Thanks to all those who came. Including the slightly more than drunk dude… he kinda became the fifth FALLBORN member for a minute there while he was conducting us from the “front row”.

We raised some money for “Haiti Relief Effort Travelers” and had a blast. Thanks for all your generosity!!!

I had fun sitting in on drums with my wife Natalie and Scott Harrah’s band: THE NATURES (go check em out!). yeha

Here’s a few photos from the night (photos by Ryan Garvin):

HAITI Benefit Concert – Feb. 26th @ The Gypsy Lounge – 9pm

February, 13 20101 Comment

HI!

We’re happy to announce that this month’s FALLBORN benefit concert will be held Feb. 26th at our favorite OC club, The Gypsy Lounge (23600 Rockfield Blvd, Ste 3A - Thanks Mike:). So mark your dang calendar!!

FALLBORN and The Natures will be performing. The Natures, by the way, is the band name for Scott Harrah and (my wife) Natalie Watts’ rootsy band. Go check em out.

Ok, so I’m going to let our good friend and benefit partner Andrea explain how this benefit is gonna work and who we’re benefitting:

If you, or someone you know, is planning a trip to Haiti to help relief efforts, we want to help get you there! It’s such an amazing and selfless thing to travel so far to show active compassion and empathy, so we’d like to help via cash money.

You will have the opportunity to raise funds simply by bringing your friends to our Benefit Show THIS Friday!! But, wait…you will also have the chance to win one of two cash prizes – a minimum at $250 each!! And on top of THAT… you will get to enjoy a FALLBORN concert, along with opening act, The Natures.

Here’s exactly how it works: We are suggesting a $10 minimum donation at the door to enter. If you’re friends say they are there to support YOU, their donation goes directly into YOUR pocket… and THEY get a free CD (we like everyone to win!). But on top of that, you will have the chance to win an additional cash prize – we will raffle off 2 cash prizes of at least $250!! We will be aucitioning off art pieces and a portion of the money made will be added to the cash prizes.

So, let’s do the math: if you get 20 friends to come support you and they all give the minimum of $10… BAM! $200 for you. Then, let’s say you win the raffle with only the minimum amount of $250… that’s a total of $450 to support you getting to Haiti!!

Here’s what we need from you: In the comment section, please provide your name and a short 1-3 sentences telling us why you’re going to Haiti (what you’re doing there, etc). Then, all we need you to do is show up at the concert… and that’s it!!

Can I still come hear FALLBORN and The Natures if I’m not going to Haiti and don’t know anybody who does? Of course you can!! And bring your friends too! We still suggest a minimum $10 donation at the door to help support relief efforts in Haiti (but hey if you’re hard for cash, just pay the $5 door charge). Just give us a little shout in the comment section to let us know you’re planning on coming!

Can’t wait to see all of you there!

- Andrea

Okay it’s me Adam, I’m back. Now please don’t let the “I’m sick of hearing about Haiti” thought getcha. Haiti is gonna be hurting for years after what happened there… so even though it’s slowly disappearing from news lets keep them in our prayers and rock this little benefit, yah? Yeah:-)

Ok, so as usual, Daniel Chesnut will be preparing a video to be played at the show. It will illustrate what’s going on out in Haiti and will feature some of your comments about why you’re traveling out there to help. Heck, if you’d like to be interviewed on camera to say a few words about your connection to the what’s going on in Haiti let us know.

SPREAD THE WORD! And we’ll see on Friday for a great night of fun, music and charitable action. If you came to last months benefit you know it’s gonnabe a great time with good vibes. Check out this recap video of last month’s benefit!

See you there:-)

Benefit Show photos… Slidebar Jan. 31st… Gypsy Lounge Feb. 1st…

January, 31 2010Comment

Hey All,

The FALLBORN, PAWNSHOP KINGS, Benefit Show for Luke Perisin was a huge success. Thank you all for coming… you made it a really warm and cool night. Yup cool and warm all at the same time. We were blown away by the turnout (people were spilling out onto PCH) and the outpouring of support. Even the art auction was a success, 4 works of art were sold.

For you guys reading this today (Sunday) cruise down to the SLIDEBAR (Fullerton) tonight and catch a full band set at 10:30pm. This is killer club down in old town Fullerton.

And if you can’t make that show, we’ll see you at our residency tomorrow (Monday) night at The Gypsy Lounge!

Here’s a few photos from the Benefit Show… and remember… this is just the first of 12 shows like this in 2010… each one will benefit a recent and local tragedy and will be a night of music and a celebration of helping each other out. Stay tuned for updates on the next one!

BENEFIT CONCERT SERIES! First one: Thursday Jan. 28th 7:30pm FALLBORN and Pawnshop Kings

January, 22 2010Comment

Hey Everyone,

I’m truly excited about this show Jan 28th at TOSTI STUDIOS in Laguna Beach (flyer with details below). Read the press coverage of what we’re doing here: Laguna Beach Independent story on FALLBORN benefit show.

It marks the LAUNCH of a monthly series of concerts FALLBORN is putting on (in partnership with filmmaker and friend Daniel Chesnut) in 2010.

WHAT IT IS:

These aren’t just shows… each show will be about a night of music, BUT the difference is these shows will also benefit someone in our community who has recently been the victim of a tragedy… could be anything… an accident, a sickness, some other random event that shook their life and messed things up. The idea is, we just randomly search the local news and find someone who could use some help or a pick me up… a little extra cash, and a soul boost. Each show will feature a short video (by Daniel Chesnut) which will tell the victims story, so you can see what went down.

WHY WE ARE DOING IT:

It’s not enough for us, to just go play music for our own sakes… at the core of what we do is a heart of compassion and a desire for connection and communication… I think a lot of artists feel this way… so we’re gonna give it shot: to put our music in a context that matches where our heads and hearts are at when we create this music and perform it. We wanted to invite you to come along for the ride in 2010.

It’s not just us… each show will feature other artists and bands who share the perspective that art is about expression and connection, but at it’s best is also about love and compassion.

HOW IT WILL WORK:

1. Each show will benefit the victim of a RECENT and LOCAL tragedy.

2. We’re in the process of working out the exact way we’ll choose each beneficiary… For this first one (Jan. 28th) it was a random google search of Laguna Beach news that yielded the beneficiary (Luke Perisin)… that felt good. We’ll let you know how this key element develops.

3. No band or artist involved will put a dollar in their pocket that isn’t fractioned off and shared with the beneficiary. More info. on the way on the specifics on this.

4. A portion of the proceeds of ticket sales (or door cover charge) will go to the beneficiary. As well as a host of other little things such as auctions and band merch. packages to add to the “giving”.

5. This is NOT a “non-profit” situation. The goal is to create a win/win situation for all involved. Just think of it as a normal concert event, but with a cool charitable element as a key focus.

6. Transparency is the key. You’ll know where your hard earned dollars are going with regards to the beneficiary.

7. This is serious fun. Don’t worry, these concerts won’t be yawn-fests full of dreary, melodramatic, gushiness. We’re gonna have fun…we just hope it might feel a little better, and dig a little deeper than most fun.

A WORD FOR THE CYNIC :

I should mention, that we’re expecting a little criticism at some point… I can see it now, “Hey, why that person? This other person or cause is much more worthy!”… my answer to that is this: feel free to throw a benefit for them then! The way we see it, the more the merrier, you can’t help everyone, but you can help someone. And something is better than nothing. We personally like the idea that you’ll be able to really take in the fact that you’ll make a difference in this person’s life… a little can go a long way.

There are inherent flaws in these kinds of things. But it’s simple: we do a bit of good, we do what we love (make music) and we can all go away knowing we were a little less selfish that day.

And if you’re wondering if this is exploitive or self serving: it is! But it’s also others serving too. That what’s cool about it. Everyone involved wins in one way or another. You get a concert. The artists get to share what we do… and someone in need gets some help.

I’m an idealist AND a realist… and I believe those things aren’t oil and water.

Hope to see you at every one of these concerts!!

With love and good happiness stuff,

Adam

FALLBORN

Here’s some info on the first concert featuring FALLBORN and PAWNSHOP KINGS. Also we will feature an auction with works by local artist Isaac Anderson (his stuff is AWESOME). This one benefits Luke Perisin. He was walking across PCH and was hit by a car going 50 mph. OUCH. No one can believe he survived (AND will make a full recovery). His life was turned upside down and he experienced an incredible spiritual rebirth through the trial. Check out the news story here:
