BENEFIT CONCERT SERIES! First one: Thursday Jan. 28th 7:30pm FALLBORN and Pawnshop Kings

January, 22 2010Comment

Hey Everyone,

I’m truly excited about this show Jan 28th at TOSTI STUDIOS in Laguna Beach (flyer with details below). Read the press coverage of what we’re doing here: Laguna Beach Independent story on FALLBORN benefit show.

It marks the LAUNCH of a monthly series of concerts FALLBORN is putting on (in partnership with filmmaker and friend Daniel Chesnut) in 2010.

WHAT IT IS:

These aren’t just shows… each show will be about a night of music, BUT the difference is these shows will also benefit someone in our community who has recently been the victim of a tragedy… could be anything… an accident, a sickness, some other random event that shook their life and messed things up. The idea is, we just randomly search the local news and find someone who could use some help or a pick me up… a little extra cash, and a soul boost. Each show will feature a short video (by Daniel Chesnut) which will tell the victims story, so you can see what went down.

WHY WE ARE DOING IT:

It’s not enough for us, to just go play music for our own sakes… at the core of what we do is a heart of compassion and a desire for connection and communication… I think a lot of artists feel this way… so we’re gonna give it shot: to put our music in a context that matches where our heads and hearts are at when we create this music and perform it. We wanted to invite you to come along for the ride in 2010.

It’s not just us… each show will feature other artists and bands who share the perspective that art is about expression and connection, but at it’s best is also about love and compassion.

HOW IT WILL WORK:

1. Each show will benefit the victim of a RECENT and LOCAL tragedy.

2. We’re in the process of working out the exact way we’ll choose each beneficiary… For this first one (Jan. 28th) it was a random google search of Laguna Beach news that yielded the beneficiary (Luke Perisin)… that felt good. We’ll let you know how this key element develops.

3. No band or artist involved will put a dollar in their pocket that isn’t fractioned off and shared with the beneficiary. More info. on the way on the specifics on this.

4. A portion of the proceeds of ticket sales (or door cover charge) will go to the beneficiary. As well as a host of other little things such as auctions and band merch. packages to add to the “giving”.

5. This is NOT a “non-profit” situation. The goal is to create a win/win situation for all involved. Just think of it as a normal concert event, but with a cool charitable element as a key focus.

6. Transparency is the key. You’ll know where your hard earned dollars are going with regards to the beneficiary.

7. This is serious fun. Don’t worry, these concerts won’t be yawn-fests full of dreary, melodramatic, gushiness. We’re gonna have fun…we just hope it might feel a little better, and dig a little deeper than most fun.

A WORD FOR THE CYNIC :

I should mention, that we’re expecting a little criticism at some point… I can see it now, “Hey, why that person? This other person or cause is much more worthy!”… my answer to that is this: feel free to throw a benefit for them then! The way we see it, the more the merrier, you can’t help everyone, but you can help someone. And something is better than nothing. We personally like the idea that you’ll be able to really take in the fact that you’ll make a difference in this person’s life… a little can go a long way.

There are inherent flaws in these kinds of things. But it’s simple: we do a bit of good, we do what we love (make music) and we can all go away knowing we were a little less selfish that day.

And if you’re wondering if this is exploitive or self serving: it is! But it’s also others serving too. That what’s cool about it. Everyone involved wins in one way or another. You get a concert. The artists get to share what we do… and someone in need gets some help.

I’m an idealist AND a realist… and I believe those things aren’t oil and water.

Hope to see you at every one of these concerts!!

With love and good happiness stuff,

Adam

FALLBORN

Here’s some info on the first concert featuring FALLBORN and PAWNSHOP KINGS. Also we will feature an auction with works by local artist Isaac Anderson (his stuff is AWESOME). This one benefits Luke Perisin. He was walking across PCH and was hit by a car going 50 mph. OUCH. No one can believe he survived (AND will make a full recovery). His life was turned upside down and he experienced an incredible spiritual rebirth through the trial. Check out the news story here:
