Hey All… well Doc says I’ve got the laryngitis. So, no show this Mondee at The Gypsy Lounge… I knew something was up in this throat of mine… so I went to the ENT Doctor (Ear-Nose-Throat)… findings: ears fine (ish), nose (fine), throat: not fine (but will be super-soon).
If you’ve never had a vocal cord/throat/larynx exam, you should really go get one… they’re a blast (no they’re not)… well they do blast some numbing spray up your nose a few times… tastes like windex or maybe bug spray, going down your throat (that’s a guess)… then you wait a minute… the doc comes in and says “ok, stay still and relax”… and proceeds to take this foot-long camera on a wire and carefully stick in up your nose (stings the nostrils) through the nasal passage and down the throat… weeeeeeeeeeee…. then he says “ok sing “eeeeeee”… ok again…”… then he got a different more rigid camera, grabbed my tongue (with some gauze) and went through my mouth this time… I sang the same “eeeeeeeeee”, while he record it all onto a computer… it’s not THAT bad really… more weird than bad… but more bad than good… the 2 hours of a numb nose and throat I could’ve done without.
So then we watched the results of the little film he directed and I starred in. It was not pretty in there folks. I won’t get into detail but it didn’t look like the cartoon poster on the wall of his office.
So he said, “well, next time if your throat hurts, or is swollen, don’t sing. Luckily you didn’t do any long term damage, but I wanna put on you on TWO WEEKS of vocal rest… some people don’t talk at all for those two weeks, I think you’ll be ok with just no whispering, very little talking and NO singing.”
So there you go… I’m already really itching to sing, but I’m resisting… it’s surreal to have that taken away for even a super short period of time… I’m counting my blessings a bit to be honest…
See you all on Sept. 28th at The Gypsy Lounge for my comeback show!! haha
