I’m up in Canada for the weekend playing for some French-Canadian friends of mine. Jean-luc and Yves Lajoie, and Sean Cimino is playing guitar, he’s from L.A. We’re in a little village called Waskaganish which is way up in Northern Quebec where it is about -10 deg C (13 degrees Fahrenheit!) right now… coldest weather I’ve ever been in.

I got a new app for my cordless iPhone and I’m lovin it! More than McDonalds. It makes my iPhone pics look way cooler and more interesting than they normally would. (thanks to sean!) So it’s nudged me to take more photos and it also reminded me of how much I like it and how much I love sharing them with the friends and fam. Looking at pictures I haven’t seen in a while is always rad. My Grandma Pri was this way, perhaps she passed it down to me. When she died at the end of 2008 she had close to (or maybe even over) 100 photo albums, real ones of course. Grandma was pure analog when it came to photos, but she sported her own email address so she could print the photos people sent her, even into her late 80s, so cool!

I really love being able to connect with my fam and friends even if I’m not with them, and even if the quality sucks. I am certainly NOT a photographer, there’s no room for another one of those! This is total consumer quality, and it’s not really about the photo as much it is about the memory – the “moment”. I love telling my wife the story that goes along with picture, even if I already told her (she’s super patient with me when I repeat myself). It’s one of the cool things about me having a sub par memory, bad memory sounds ‘bad’ and is usually stamped as a negative thing, but I can enjoy something over and over… might not have remembered if it wasn’t triggered by a pic. Its a way of coming back to an event that made me feel a certain way, my own Delorean with a Flux Capacitor. Music does this of course, and so do smells, and when that happens it’s almost always completely unexpected. It instantly transports you back to a moment, such a neat thing.

I must be stimulating my nastalgia muscles lately, cuz my wife and I found a Super Nintendo on eBay last week and bought it. Super mario brothers 3 is as fun as it was 20 years ago. Setting that up was really fun- pushing the cartridge in, sliding the power switch, the feel of the controlers, the music, sound fx, low low tech graphics and even the way mario responds to the controler. Super Fun stuff!!

That’s all for now, heading back to Montreal tomorrow then flying home on Monday. I think we’re mixing a few FALLBORN songs next week so it will be an exciting one!!!

Hi… Wanted to update you guys on some happenings…!!… as you can see below this and above this we have some new photos… I found this abandoned Arizona Tea factory in Fullerton… right by the railroad tracks… the place is nuts… it’s huge… it’s halfway demolished… and it’s all the way awesome. Leave it to a group of guys in a band to be all mesmerized by a junky old place… anyways, It’s gotta be the size of a Walmart… tons of rooms… some dark as night during the day… holes in the ceilings let shards of light through… dozens of pigeons have made a home in some of these upstairs rooms (leaving large mounds of their… um… poop)… sometimes you walk into a room and a pigeon panics and flies into a wall. I’ve realized pigeons are possibly the Forrest Gumps of the bird world… good things happen to them, people tend to feed them etc… but they’re pretty much retarded… I know that’s a politically incorrect word, but it’s okay when talking about the bird population I think… yeah? I’m gonna get turded on aren’t I? I’ll post a few more photos of this place.

Things to check out APRIL 1st!!!

EPK – (electronic press kit)…… we’ve been at work on this on and off for a couple months… it’s basically a little documentary on AWB… I’m excited for you guys to see it… it’s been a blast to make… you’ll here new songs on it… you’ll see new songs on it…. you’ll see some footage from that Gypsy Lounge Show we did (some of you were there)… there will be interviews, shots of us being… um… pigeons lets say.

Our brand-spanking-new website… This has been a long time coming as well… its going to be very active and interactive… a fun place to hang out and get into the music and connect with other people etc. etc. We’ll be posting lots of video content (in addition to the EPK) so you guys can see what’s up with recording, shows, pigeon behavior etc…. we hope you enjoy it.

So really, AWB kinda of launches into Phase 2 of 2009 on April 1st. We’re stoked.

THEN on April 4th we’re playing an unplugged set (while plugged in) at a Breast Cancer benefit in Phoenix… it will be hosted by uber-successful author Stephenie Meyer… she wrote the Twilight series of books… she’s a HUGE music fan and we love a lot of the same bands… we have a mutual friend who has turned her onto our music and we’re super excited to go be a part of this great event…. it’s in Phoenix AZ…. and tickets are on sale NOW… so if any of you wanna drive 5 hours and come hang with us… well, then you’re crazy! But, we love crazy. Do it! We’ll caravan… Just post a comment on this blog and we’ll get you some info. on how you might be able to come to this thing… it’s in an 800 seat theater and I hear it’s gonna sell out quick… and be fun.
